Hey guys, just registered here cause i read on another site this is where its at. So i have a few basic questions if you would be so kind as to answer (preferably seasoned riders) but any help is appreciated.
I am debating on if I should bother taking this stunting thing up as a hobby because ive been "into it" since like 9th grade, so about 5 years ago, but never had the cashflow to throw into it, which has changed since then. Im now age 20, but Im afraid it may be too late to start in terms of how long it takes to become fairly decent at stunting. Most people i ever read about have been riding since they were very young, so im a little uneasy about that.
I intend on buying a new gixxer if I decide on keeping it casual, but ill just get a used one (with intent to destroy...lol) if i do decide to get in the game. Im not dead stupid when it comes to bikes, ive ridden my uncles gixxer 600 and have been riding my dirtbike on and off for 7 years, never done anything crazy though, just trailing with buds.
So the questions...
1. How long did it take some of you to get the basics of this all down (wheelies standing and sitting with good throttle control, and ability to maneuver the bike while doing it). I am also more coordinated and have better reflexes than most if that helps btw...just sayin.
2. What would be the essentials to equip my bike with, apparently gixxers have a frame snapping potential? so any reccomended cage, sliders, round bars, and particularly what sproket size should i get.

I did not touch anything with 2 wheels til 3 years ago... not a pit bike, dirt bike, street bike... nothing.
I did not get into parking lot riding til about a year ago.. I am far from killing anything except my bike and my body.
Dont know what you do for work but if your license plays any roll in your job I would get a lot bike or set one up yourself. If I lose my license I will be throwing my current job (which blows donkey nuts) down the hole, as well as hopes for my new job that I will be starting shortly.
The year of gsxr depends on the kind of setup you would run...
I ran my kawi with just a cage and stock sprockets for a while... then put the bigger gearing on later once I had the coin.. (was laid off while building my bike so not alot of spare cash flow)
I didnt even add a handbrake to my bike til almost a year after starting.. just to firmly concrete the footbrake into my mind first. (Alot of new riders dont do this much anymore as I have seen, Ive seen many riders that can do highchair circles, or blindside ralph louie circles but once you unbolt the handbrake lever from their bike... their bag of tricks shrinks considerably

yeah its all about fun, i only started up maybe 2 months ago? not quite sure but i dont even ride all the time cause of other stuff that gets in the way....check out the dabba thread 20 is definately not too old since im 20 too and asked the same question a few months back, to get idle it took me a couple long sessions to get it and now im pretty decent at it, not progressing quick but not slow either, it all depends on the rider and whether or not ur too scared or not....i finally decided to put the fear behind me and just do stuff, but i dont plan on doing high chairs yet
my 2 cents get a clapped out piece and stunt it if you plan on doing the lot thing, ull drop the bike a decent amount most likely...i picked up my lot bike last winter and now am building a bike this winter to be my pretty stunt bike next year or 2 years....good luck and welcome dude

if you really want to stunt dont buy a gixxer
. i didnt start stunting till i was 31 years old, you can get some pretty decent game in your trick bag in a year or two, maybe less depending on how much you practice

Hey thanks guys, seems like this will be a fun community to be involved with, so let me first say the main reason I was concerned with age is because of my future plans. I am a criminal justice major and in 3 years ill have my bachelors, after which I plan on getting a federal job (which will be pretty time consuming, lots of travel, etc) so i wanted to make sure I could get in a few good years of fun before its too late
, but if you guys were feelin it after only a few months, i just got a big relief. Now, being a 5'6" 140lb guy (i know, huge right?) what do you feel would be a better choice of bike for me. Ive only ridden a gixxer, so I felt comfortable, but maybe theres better. I DO want a 600 though cause im so darn small and the bike pretty much asks "are you on yet?" haha.

IN reality it all comes down to the how much time are you willing to put into it.I've seen dudes learn circles in 2 weeks, it took me WAAAAY longer because I was stupid and I had started on a brandnew bike. Just buy a POS F4i for the lot and put in time and money lol. In reality, a lot of these tricks are just seat time, some obviously depending on body type etc but most is all spending hours and hours at the lot.

I'm selling a fully setup F4i. Just buy it and you're good to go! (also I just graduated with my BA in Political Science, am 5'6" and 150lbs, so the bike will fit you perfectly!)

everybody here has pretty much said it man, its what u put into it, but have fun with it, i love going to the lot and hittin the streets with my boys, i dont care at all to bring it anywhere other than that, its all about havin fun man
