Whats a typical price for powder coating a frame? - Isaac - 02-12-2010 shop i have charges as much as 250 for frame and sub frame......and another 50 for swing arm....thats for a solid color....candy is a lil more Whats a typical price for powder coating a frame? - Isaac - 02-12-2010 but i have learned lately that not all powdercoat companies are the same. Got a guy I know who has his stuff powdercoated but its looks like shit. Its peelin, crackin, and chippin.. the guy I use has quality powdercoat that will never chip, peel, or crack. You can take a razor or sharp object to it and grind and shave until you see bare metal.. it just shaves away.....the guy slightly texturized the material allowing the powdercoat to have an unbelievable bond to its surface. I have him double coat all my work and it comes out absolutely amazing... ![]()
Whats a typical price for powder coating a frame? - YSRRider - 02-12-2010 I'll have to check online and see what flavors they have........ Whats a typical price for powder coating a frame? - Isaac - 02-12-2010 only thing you want to do before intallation is to grind down the powdercoating to bare inside the frame where the motor mounts.....do the same on all other mounts to the motor or bolts that sit against the powdercoat. This will insure your torque setting will hold & the vibrations will not cause any bolts to come loose. Whats a typical price for powder coating a frame? - YSRRider - 02-12-2010 If the powder is chipping and peeling its because he has poor prepping methods. Alot of coaters that are popping up are just coating over whatever is there. There isnt much difference in powder coating than painting cars, its all in the prep work! if you spray a car and dont sand it down whats going to happen? the paint WILL peel off. It could also be that hes not fully curing the parts. What do you mean by "slightly textureized the metal"? Everything with the exception of sheet metal should be thoroughly blasted, this takes you down to virgin/white metal, done with an adequate media you should have a sterile surface for coating and the desired texture to maximize adhesion. 80 mesh aluminum oxide is the most popular, aluminum that has been carefully blasted at 40-60 psi (depending on blasting setup) will give you a super soft blast profile that is perfect to coat over. a blasted surface that is blasted with a coarse media is destroying the metal for 1, and leaves you with peak and valleys that are too large to coat over, this causes orange peel, micro pinholing and air pockets that will leave bigger pinholes from the air escaping during the cure. You want the blasted finish to feel like a pieces of 400 grit sand paper, not a 60 grit sanding disc. proper blasting and washing of the metal will make the coatings look like glass.
Whats a typical price for powder coating a frame? - YSRRider - 02-12-2010 that red looks dope! Whats a typical price for powder coating a frame? - Isaac - 02-13-2010 its not all in the prep work. powdercoat is a mixture of substance...the formula varies between companies...some have more phophorous than others...the texturizing helps bond the powdercoat...its very slight and not enough to take off much material....
