Mini's right all the way to the front on the left side of the tank with a check valve. Made that mistake with the first 2 i did and not going to make that mistake again.

Do you like slide off the side when doing circles or something on a tank like this? I wouldn't know because I'm way too squidly to to tank tricks... But I really like the look of these tanks, and they look super comfy. I want to do one now! Even if it's just to get rid of having to slowly trickle in gas into my dented tank!
I wonder how well this would work on an 06 tank. Maybe I could mod another tank, or maybe build an 06 tank up to a full metal tank. That would be pretty sweet, but probably beyond my ability.
What way does the check valve go? in or out?

762 your nuts if you think this would be beyond your ability i think you've clearly proven that several times. For the half tank on the 06 you could do a nice dent with a lip like i did on my gixxer (check out the gxxer pics thread). or like you said you could do a full tank mod to your half tank, only think would be bending the metal to get it the way you want it, and possibly dealing with the airbox. as far as the vent it you cut out and replace your stock cap you'll want to extend the vent tube to the front of the tank and place a check valve like cycle gear sells for dirtbikes. heres one i just did, its easier to use a compression fitting then weld the tube.
i'll just throw in the pic of my tank so you know and don't have to search.

here's a peek at a tank i just finished 05 R6. The biggest difficulty with R6 tanks is the really high airbox so it makes this tank a lot harder to cut any lower unless you want to modify the airbox in some way.

fml I guess I should just stick with my dented tank until I can actually DO anything on the tank besides stand on it
I still think it would be pretty sweet to do a full steel tank though. Not just for looks, but the capacity of my dented tank sucks! I've seen the guys do the whole tanks from scratch on those chopper shows, it would be pretty sweet to have that skill set!
