You can dent steel tubing with a piece of wood if you hit it enough times, billet aluminum fork tubes is more then strong enough to do the same

Would that cause the crack?

This is the mig welded frame from Motodoc. I'm almost sure this crack developed from kangaroo hops. I was working on getting more height out of them the week I noticed it and my bike was bottoming out on both ends. I know all frames eventually crack but I was kinda bummed it happened after one season of riding. Just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else and how should I fix this from happening again? Taking it to my welder tomorrow.

Steel frames are stronger, but not indestructible. That frame obviously wasn't heat treated after welding, so the welds are hard and brittle. That's where and why the crack developed.

I would grind a champher on both sides of the crack and weld it up. Then grind it smooth if you care how it looks. Pretty easy fix.
