just a little pre-rant...

XDL brings all the drama, shit talk, upon it self. Having a judge who is a team mate of several other riders competing in the series is absolutely wrong. What other sport do you see this happening in? I get he's been there since the beginning, he deserved to be there but a judge? I totally see nick as a stand up guy who would judge the runs fairly, what do the other 99.9% of ppl see? One empire rider judging the runs of 3/4 of his team mates

If you knew Apex you would know he doesn't play favorites.

But along those same lines, pretty much EVERY rider is friends with the judges and hang out together. So how would playing favorites favor anyone? LOL.

That's a great point! How many riders in the entire scene do you figure have a close enough relationship to him to know that? 5% at best??and being "friends" and hanging out at events is not the same thing as a former rider and competitor judging the runs of his teammates! Noone said anyone was playing favorites, in fact I said he wasn't. You quoted me missed what I said. All these ppl keep saying its a "sport" start treating it like one

personally i dont care what 'outsiders' think...and while i understand your point, and it is a valid one, please suggest to me an alternative. the sport isn't old enough for guys in the know to be retired to judges. there's no $ for judges, only the desire to progress and improve things.

we, as riders and competitors are all 100% comfortable with nick. and there are rules in place to prevent favoritism...for the record i only made my comment about judging to try and squash the usual nonsensical judging comments.

you can't compare our sport in that aspect to other sports, we are an enigma and unique for a variety of ways. one day when i retire, i'm sure i'll be a judge, until then i'm going to compete.

robotjerk: speed and danger to technical tricks IS progressing the sport. you get speed and squid confused. there was a time when bar tricks and idle circles were considered cutting edge and almost destroyed what little of a sport we have, i've been working against that attitude since then and believe we've made a lot of progress in the right direction. speed and danger is the key...see luke duke's circle sets for tech/speed combined.

there are 100 examples but here are two:

270 pop-a-stoppie vs 400 foot yack-a-stoppie into a 270.

tight figure 8 50/50 vs coming in hot one way to pause and then the other way.

it is not an either/or situation with speed/danger vs tech...it is a combination of the two. any of the top riders doing 'basic' stuff usually have the element of high speed or high risk...example again would be the lame skidding the rear tire while revving the bike vs. coming in at the top of 2nd and backing it in at over two times the speed. sure, it's a basic back-in, but at speed there is so much more risk of danger.

i digress.

anyone woh has anything constructive to say can either email me or other respected riders in the SPORT or can show up to an event, be a part of it and work to effect changes they so desire.

and yes, i say sport bc there is no arguing that fact. while it may only be a lifestyle (or both) to many, it is undoubtedly a sport with winners, sponsors, and $.

Julian was staying with Nick riding Ernie's bike and has been really good friends with both of them for a while so the Favoritism thing just doesn't work. I have been friends with Nick for a long time and ride with him here in Vegas and he hammered me in Long Beach XDL and told me why, so I know for a fact that there is nothing funny going on with him. His empire team gets nothing special having him judge in fact I'm sure its the opposite usually in these situations they will be judged a little harder than most, so people wont cry about it not being fair. I know for a fact that the judging is better this year than previous years esp for the guys that are not the big names.

I completely understand what you are saying, and the point i was trying to make was that speed/danger shouldn't completely over ride tech difficulty which seems like the case when you compare these two runs. Im not talking about Luke Duke, because his run definitely deserved what he got IMO.

You seem to have missed the point, Teach got it but here ya go.. Nick being an honest judge has nothing to do with it, its a conflict of interest for a xdl rider to judge his team mates end of story. Nick could have ascended to heaven and got drunk with moses. The point was... It reflects negatively on the integrity of of the judging system that's all. I never questioned nicks integrity or anything of the like. it's the principle not the person

Then the same could be said about Tice.

Find 4 people who can judge, take the time off, not get paid, be consistent, not have any ties with any riders, have some "credibility", etc etc etc and email those names to XDL. It's not easy. LOL
