Marines DEP - kirny - 03-01-2012 i am not reading this whole thing but i will give you this info about the dep program.........YOU CAN QUIT AT ANYTIME AND IT IS NO HARM NO FOUL.........if anyone tells you otherwise they are wrong...........the whole swearing in thing is a scare tactic to make you think that if you quit some military action will be taken.........when you get off the plane in san diego or south carolina you can get right back on a plane to your home town and say fuck that Marines DEP - kirny - 03-01-2012 Quote:

and as far as the other stuff about the pilots and airwing and all that stuff, i believe you kirny...i was just infantry and was just goin off of what i saw on ship and most of them were capt that flew harriers and cobras....and thanx for the correction on the kc-130...and as far as osprey's, no offense, but i don't care what anyone says about em, i fuckin hate em...lol...they had the most casualties of any other aircraft due to mechanical failure, not being shot down like helos...and they are scary as shit...just don't like...i'm sure they've improved by now though didn't know airwing was a 5yr contract...i signed for 4 and extended for a yr to do one more deployment to iraq Marines DEP - Big Red - 03-04-2012 Thanks guys for all your comments and information! Really appreciate it! I passed MEPS, i signed an 8 year contract( 4 years active, 4 years reserve) and took my oath to be a US Marine. I ship out to boot camp September 10th, so I have all summer to think about this, and find a MOS i really want. I was talking to some Marines down at MEPS, and i asked them about the DEP, and if you decide to change your mind about joining, its called Apathy, and there is no harm. You just can't decide to be a Marine ever again. Anyways doubt I'm going to be doing that route. This is a big life changer and all and I know its all going to payoff. I scored a 76 on my asvab, and passed my full physical. Only thing i failed, was on my vision test, i didn't pass the depth perception part. You know with all the rows of circles and you have to find which one stands out. I couldn't see any fucking circle standout. I talked to a guy who I guess was re-enlisting, at lunch. and told me he failed the depth perception at MEPS first time he enlisted, but passed it when he arrived at boot camp. So i guess it depends. Some MOS's that id think id like are, Metal Worker, Aircraft Welder, and really anything in the Aircraft Maintenance field. Anything that can get me close to any type of aircraft. I know there is a lot of time and effort being put towards becoming a pilot. But I dont care if i have to be a Marine for 20 years. Ill use every education benefit i can to go through schooling and training to be a pilot. Thats the big picture for me. And if i can accomplish that, then shit I'd be fucking proud till the day I die. So for the next 6 months till i leave to boot camp, I'm just looking to enjoy as much time with friends and family. Try to stay out of trouble and have a little fun. Also getting my body in very good shape, so i can kick ass at boot camp.
Marines DEP - Big Red - 03-04-2012 Oh and i got a few questions. Can i retake my ASVAB while in DEP? Can i change my MOS as many times as I can while in DEP, as long as its before my final swear in? Marines DEP - Shane Klar - 03-04-2012 as far as retesting....this comes straight from the recruiter manual...check it RETESTING OF DEP PERSONNEL. DEPpers contracted as “will grads” and, while in DEP, completed all graduation requirements to earn an education code of L, B H or 8, and work force DEPpers who complete at least one accredited college-level course at a college or university after DEP-in, are eligible to retest. basically, its sayin retesting while in DEP is not authorized. To retest while once on active duty you will have to provide documentation that you have completed some time of education. This is usually a college math or english course which would provide some evidence that you would increase your score. Now as far as changing ur MOS....this is very tricky....basically, it comes down to this... if you have a waiver how you scored on the asvab and when ur supposed to leave for bootcamp It is possible to change your MOS before you leave for boot camp but I would say 95% of the time you will not get a very good selection now. The jobs they will show you are going to be what are called "the first screen". This causes ALOT of heartache for ALOT of people. The first screen is all the jobs that have an open seat. Like when you pick an mos, the seat is gone which means it won't show up on the screen for other recruiters. HOWEVER, the fiscal year starts in October, which means it's a brand new fresh list of all the jobs, i know you leave in sept, but you can change it to leave mid october or november so you can get a fresh pick on jobs, if the recruiter allows you to change....if ur really set on changing and you know 100% that it's the job you want and ur recruiter won't give it to you, then as a last resort, you can keep pushin ur leave date back until you reach a yr in DEP...after a yr in DEP, ur flushed out and you have to go thru the process over again (no harm no foul) which means a second chance with that vision test too (especially for pilots) and new pick on what job you want.....but that's a last resort..... hope this helps buddy sorry it's long again...lol Marines DEP - Shane Klar - 03-04-2012 oh yea, last thing...for questions for ur jobs that you stated above, deffinately call kirny cuz that's out of my echelon...lol...i was just infantry, but i'm sure he knows everything there is to know about what you ur lookin to do Marines DEP - Reed - 03-12-2012 Quote:
Marines DEP - Big Red - 03-29-2012 Got my MOS, legal admin. Sorry kirny for not calling you. But i decided im just going to head to college after I'm done with my active duty. And use my college fund once I'm back home. I'm still a teen so my mind changes like no other on what I want to do. Didn't really want anything to do with infantry. Wanted a MOS that could be able to transfer to the civilian world. Dont get me wrong, i respect infantry, and at least I'm still a rifleman first as a Marine, so I'm sure i can see a little action. Thank you guys for all the info. Appreciate it. Now just looking forward to enjoy the rest of my time off and get high school over with, before i head to boot camp. Semper Fi
