Sitting here procrastinating starting a fuckton of homework I thought I'd make a thread to document the rebuild of my f4i for this season. Got it last
may as my first stuntbike already set up. 19mm nissin hb master, 929 forks, 905 cage, hohey 4 piston dcb, vortex clipons, 64t sprocket, 12 bar and
that's all i can think of off the top of my head. Looks way better in pictures than in person.
Little by little I began fixing small issues and started to actually ride it. I progressed and eventually I got tired and scared of riding a pile of doo doo
that vibrated and rattled like crap as soon as I hit the throttle. I've had subframe bolts come off, rear set come off etc. So last week I decided to tear it
down to tighten everything up. While I was at it, I said fuck it, might as well paint it. So i will be getting that done this or the next week. Plus I've come
across a bunch of things that need and will be fixed. Oh well. Here she is right before the tear down.
To do list:
- new hb master, r1 brembo, got it 3 weeks ago
- replace pitted forks (ordered)
- fix radiator
- shorten the stock exhaust, maybe get a new one
- replace rear wheel bearings. They were a hot mess and the
wheel rocked side to side like crazy, rubing on the dcb (ordered a set but a wrong one FML, replacement already in the mail)
- get a fender
- fix right motor mount
- put a small lip on the tank and fix holes
- Paint frame, swingarm, plastics, tank
- valve adjustment
- throttle body sync
- clean the fuck out of everything
- torch brake pads to rid of fork oil
- rsc (got it last week)
- replace head bearings (got them today)
- fix the cage and make longer sliders
- all new fluids (duh)
- probably more little annoying crap
- put it back together within two weeks from now hopefully

It is off a 900rr. 93-94 to be exact. Learned the hard way as I ordered bearings for the newer 900rr. Two out of three bearings fit though haha. New ones should be here tomorrow along with forks. I also like the rim over the stock f4i wheel. Ordered 6 valve shims today too. Been busy with school to do anything else with it.

The wheel came on the bike when I bought it. So yes, I've been running two different wheel sizes. I guess that explains why I've always wondered if the rear sits a little too low haha. I ain't paying for a new wheel though. Just got my forks in. 80 bucks shipped for 929 forks in mint condition. Winning.

only the front wheel on the early 900rr were 16" the backs were 17" bike looks good man. What color scheme are you thinking for paint?

You're right Dustin, I actually checked the tire size yesterday and it's a 17 inch wheel so I stand corrected. The frame, subframe and swingarm are getting painted a gunmetal/darkish grey color as I'm not a fan of flashiness. The parts are at my dad's work already, they're going to prep and paint them this week. Ideally I would also paint the tank, fender, tail and rims a dark red color, but I think I'm just going to slap it back together to be able to ride asap and leave those things as they are for now. We shall see.
The new forks I got are super soft and I'm able to bottom them out by pressing them hard into the ground. Yes even at full stiffness. I drained the oil from one of them, and the correct volume came out but it was dirty. I have a bottle of 10w fork oil and I'm hoping it will fix the issue. It better. What else could it be? Also waiting for valve shims as three local so called dealers did not even have them in stock LOL. Also got my carbtune for throttle body sync this week. Weather's nice. I should be riding SMH.

Those forks are 12 years old so if the damping and rebound are good I'd look into stiffer race tech springs and new inner and outer bushings if you take em apart. Gunmetal and red would be sick
