Flipping bikes for profit - my750 - 10-22-2012
Any one do it as a way to make some extra cash or for a living? If so do you switch the title to your name and pay for the taxes or do you simply buy the bike and sell it after youve done some work or even just let it sit around for a few months? I just see some alright deals on facebook maybe 1500-2000 under kbb with owners hard up for cash or the bike needs new plastics and am wondering if i can actually make a buck or two off of it.

noo.. buy it and part it. get owner to sign their part and u dont sign. bill of sale between u and the buyer and you are good IMO

yea i only transfer if i plan on riding the bike. But paying taxes on a 200$ isnt a big deal here in michigan. lol

Well you talking about selling whole bikes or parting them out, or both? Because if so and the title thing your are asking about a lot of states you have to register within soo many days of sale and have to have a bill of sale as well at the time of transfer. So if you are going to sell the bike to someone else the person you purchase the bike from would have to give you a none dated title and bill of sale and the bill of sale would have to have no name on it so it could be filled out when you sell it and it looks as though who you bought it from is selling it to them. Or something. Because otherwise you will be selling bikes and having people pissed because titles will be in limbo, because if the title isn't in your name you can't sell it to them. Well you could but then they couldn't transfer the title or anything.
Should probably add, maybe someone else knows some loopholes or tricks. I never figured anything out but not like I did it full time or a lot. Probably only sold 10 bikes or so like that.

I just started a motorcycle salvage yard. In AZ, you can only buy/sell 6 bikes a year without becoming a registered automotive recycler. Obviously they will never know if you don't put the titles in your name, however the last owner can apply for a new title and your title will be voided.
If you get caught flipping bikes, you can be tagged as a "street dealer" and there are fines and even jail time for that.

Definitely a good time to buy now then sell in spring. Hella deals poppin up and people sellin their bikes. Buddy of mine just picked up a clean title 04 636 21k miles for 1300$. Just some minor rash on the plastics. He's gunna keep it but if he waited till spring he could easily selll it and make a few g's. Id be doin it if i had the $$

Its a good time to buy if people will sell. I have been hitting people up on CL and all these clowns have 10 year old bikes, high prices, and they wont budge!!! I dont know that I would get into it. You might end up breaking even. people dont want to come out the pocket either. Everyone is looking for a deal! joke!
