rolling looooong stoppies - advice - Nick Storm - 07-16-2012 So I can just about double my aproach from a 120foot run up and I really want to see if I can stretch it further so I'm keen to hear from those who can, or those who've seen them do it )things I do so far:
What's the best way to practice getting closer to BP? i.e. Does BP change with speed? Until recently I've always assumed it was lower @ higher speed and higher at lower speeds... any ideas tips or help well welcome!!!
rolling looooong stoppies - advice - SKETCHY - 07-16-2012 my advice is to come to Atlanta in October for stoppie school.
rolling looooong stoppies - advice - da Liks - 07-16-2012 No No Yes bend them a little but keep them as firm as you can. BP is still high, just more margin for error due to wind. but not with a 120ft runup haha! go full on 3rd/4th gear that's what i'm talking about.. rolling looooong stoppies - advice - da Liks - 07-16-2012 Nick lives in the UK.. would be cheaper to spend a weekend with me haha! rolling looooong stoppies - advice - Dr.MotoKawi - 07-16-2012 I like soft-er suspension myself... Id say ask rowdy or jesse they give great tips/advice on the subject rolling looooong stoppies - advice - WheelieJoe - 07-16-2012 steering damper to the max?? ![]() I put my steering damper to the max, then almost crashed riding in a straight line
rolling looooong stoppies - advice - GAMstunts - 07-16-2012 I wouldnt worry about the approach distance yet, id b more concerned learning how to pick up at higher speeds like Daliks said 3rd-4th gear, and cut the approach down later. Id also suggest a calm day and yes crank that stabalizer up! I use mine as stiff as it will get when goin for distance. Id also suggest wearing all the gear you got. Your best bet would be ride in front of someone that can do what you want to do, they can pick out your mistakes and give you tips youll never get on a computer. Take Da Liks up on that offer, or find someone else over there that can roll. rolling looooong stoppies - advice - Nick Storm - 07-16-2012 hey Da Liks, now I know you know what you're talking about ![]() so suspesnsion - hard up top, 1turn off hard at bottom is what I've got. I think 30psi in the tyre... softer compression better for quick grip? not hard damper? hmmmmm ??? rolling looooong stoppies - advice - da Liks - 07-16-2012 what bike are you riding, r6? what you really wanna do is get your suspension tuned in if you really wanna roll. or get a 954 lol!! get progressive forksprings for your weight and go play with the rebound and compression. compression stiffer then stock but not too stiff. you want the front end to dive a bit to transfer the weight correctly. but use a lot of rebound because you want the forks to stay down for the most part.. run the damper stiff, but not TOO stiff. you still want to to be able to steer the bike and correct it. just go out with these basic ideas/settings, and a flathead and write down what happens when you change the settings. rolling long is science, skill and balllls.. rolling looooong stoppies - advice - da Liks - 07-16-2012 Oh, and: cones cones cones! measure up like 300ft for a runup ( i know you can already roll stoppies!) and take the exact take-off everytime. Make a point out of picking it up correctly, have a mate watch the rear tire as you go over the pickupline. make the stoppie as smooth as you possibly can. NO pumping the brakes! |
